Biography

I graduated with a B.A. in English Literature from Columbia College/Columbia University in New York City, in 1987. I went on to get an M.A. degree in Organizational/Social Psychology from Columbia Teachers College in 1990. I worked in a variety of corporate settings, including General Electric, in human resources and career development until 1998, when I began my Ph.D. in clinical psychology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. I completed a clinical postdoctoral fellowship in substance abuse treatment at the Dallas Veterans Affairs Hospital in 2003. I have held clinical faculty and lectureship appointments at several institutions, including UT Southwestern, Johns Hopkins University, and Southern Methodist University. In addition to my teaching responsibilities at Texas State University, I presently work at the Austin Veterans Affairs Mental Health Clinic. When not working, I enjoy spending time with my family and animals, and I relax doing Bikram yoga and skydiving.
