Our newest faculty member, Dr. Jessica Perrotte will talk about 'Traditional Gender Roles and Alcohol Use: Expanding the Toolkit.' Researchers often suggest that traditional gender roles (TGR) stemming from Latinx culture are related to more drinking for men (through machismo norms) and less drinking for women (through marianismo norms); however, research examining TGR and alcohol use among Latinx men and women is scarce and has several methodological limitations (e.g., the use of distal, belief-based measures for TGR). This talk will first highlight key findings and limitations of the extant literature on TGR and alcohol use, as detailed in a recent narrative review. Next, this talk will share two sets of newly developed TGR measures that are designed to address some of the previously mentioned limitations.

Please join us for another great psychology research talk. Lunch will be provided.
