What is Psychology?
Psychology is formally defined as The Science of Behavior and Mental Processes. The field of psychology is quite broad, and includes many specialized areas of interest. Completion of a bachelor's degree in psychology will provide a valuable education for the student that will prove beneficial in many career fields. Psychology majors are often sought for employment in business and industry, as well as in the helping professions. Psychology is a field in which there is great opportunity for significant research contribution as well as working with people. Specialization within the field of psychology is best achieved with the completion of a graduate degree. Student/Faculty Mixers and other department wide events provide the student with a sense of belonging and cohesiveness with peers, faculty, and staff of the psychology department.

Since 1969, the Department of Psychology at Texas State has strived to provide the highest quality undergraduate psychology program possible. The department offers both BS and BA degrees in Psychology with an emphasis on training students for both graduate school and finding employment after graduation. The opportunity to participate in both independent research courses and undergraduate internship placements help students to gain valuable experience in the field.
